The Metropolitan Building Wedding
in Long Island City for Jenn & Pawel
I loved DJing Jenn & Pawel's Metropolitan Building wedding in Long Island City, Queens, NY. Prior to the big day I did a couple video calls with them and was struck at how laid back they were. And that's exactly how their wedding was, relaxed and good vibes all night.
The evening started off with cocktail hour before the ceremony. While enjoying drinks and snacks, guests bobbed their heads to a custom mix of soul, rat pack, and bossa nova that the couple and I came up with together.
An hour later the ceremony started. I provided mics and music. One of their friends was officiating, which is more the rule than the exception these days. We did a mic check and briefly discussed details and I made sure he felt comfortable. He did a great job.
The couple walked in to "All You Need is Love" by the Beatles, and ended the ceremony with Nina Simone "My Baby Just Cares for Me."
After the ceremony, we really got this Metropolitan Building wedding started. Guests enjoyed a few more drinks before dinner. During the meal I kept the same vibes going and several people told me how much they enjoyed the music. Towards the end of dinner I provided a wireless mic for their toasts.
Pawel and Jenn are big Leon Bridges fans, so after the toasts, they did their first dance to "Beyond," a slower song, and 90 seconds into it, we switched to the faster "If It Feels Good" and invited their guests to join them on the dance floor.
Pawel said he liked my Indie Pop playlist, but besides that I had pretty much free reign for the dance music. So I started off with some 80's and Motown and gradually worked up to indie pop as well as old school hip-hop and house music. I was just reading the crowd like I always do. It was a really fun wedding and I'm glad I got a chance to be a part of it.
Thank you Pawel and Jenn for letting me be a part of your Metropolitan Building Wedding!
